Archive for February, 2011

I took a few months off dancing over the bleak mid-winter. Christmas got crazy and then I was lucky enough to have my big adventure to Peru planned for the majority of January to get away from the grey drizzle and cold of a British January… So Peru was absolutely mind-blowing. I did a three week whirlwind tour of Peru from Lima to Nazca, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Cusco, the Inca Trail, Puno and ended up in La Paz, Bolivia. Of course words can’t pay it justice appart from just saying WOWOWOWOW. I had the most incredible adventures, from dolphin spotting at the Balestas Islands to Pisco shooting at Ica, to bombing down huge sanddunes on a sandboard, headfirst, to peeking at the bizarre Nazca lines, to mummyspotting and condor watching at the world’s biggest (and deepest) Canyon (yes, bigger than the Grand Canyon even..), experiencing the strange effects of altitude sickness and the terror of bouncy night buses. The wonderful city of Cusco and the cathedral, horse riding through Inca ruins, and then of course the incredible INca Trail itself… A landslide changing our plans and having to hike further in less time on the trail – hardcore trekking through the cloud forest in the pouring rain! Machu Pichu and the clearing mists literally taking my breath away. Puno, Lake Titikaka and the crazy giant waves, staying on a local island with the villages, joining in the dance festival in Puno and onto the Witches market in La Paz, dried out baby llamas and witch love potions… All too amazing, all wonderfully incredible… Ahhhh…

And so now, it’s back to reality, and it’s taken a good few weeks to readjust back to the pace of life in the UK. It took me a week to get over my jet lag (29 hour journey home) and a little longer for the hecticness to creep back in, and I’d say I’m back up to speed now! So the dancing is starting up again – I’ve been doing a few DVDs to get back into shimmy shape, and I’m starting up my classes again next week (March 3rd). Looking forward to getting back into it, and planning some interesting class plans to get everyone inspired!! So it’s back with a bang (a shimmy shimmy bang bang) for 2011 – bring it on!!
